Who we are

Our aim

The aim of Dun Laoghaire Presbyterian Church is to encourage people of all ages to become fully devoted followers of Jesus. We want to know God’s love and show that love to people around us as effectively as possible. We meet every Sunday morning at 11am, and through the week in Small groups.

The congregation has been in existence for nearly 200 years. It was founded by Scottish engineers who were responsible for building the town’s harbour. The current meeting house was built in 1863, and in 2013 we celebrated its 150th anniversary.

How the congregation works

Our aim is to become fully devoted followers of Jesus. Our form of working is called Presbyterian. It comes from a word in the Bible for an elder (Presbuteros). So the main body which has responsibility for the church are a group of elders, referred to as the Session. These elders have been elected to this position of leadership by the rest of the church family, and are responsible, along with the minister for the spiritual oversight and care of the congregation. The congregational committee is responsible for the practical maintenance of church’s property, buildings and finance. The congregation is part of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.

Our Staff team

Minister:

Chris Kennedy has been the congregation’s minister since September 2009. He is married to Sallie, and they have three boys. Chris loves to talk to people about the Lord Jesus, the Bible and life. When he’s not working, you might see him spending time with his family or running ‘for fun’ (?!) around Dun Laoghaire.

Youth Worker

Tom Tate has been with us from 2012. He leads several youth clubs through the week for children and young people. He enjoys good company, comics, badminton, and the occasional run (though not to the same extreme as Chris!).
